This ones for you, on Father’s Day.
Today isn’t just about the fathers who are lucky enough to kiss their babies to sleep each night, or watch them grow each day into their own little personalities. Today is also about the fathers who never got to hold their baby, to watch them grow in their mummy’s belly or to bring them home from the hospital. It’s a day for those who will never get to see their baby or children grow up, for those who are grieving and hurting. It’s for those who may have lost their own fathers or any other father role figure who may have been in their lives.
Fatherhood comes in many different shapes and sizes. And we can often forget the ones who are grieving on holidays like today. Like one would tell me on Mother’s Day, you became a father from the moment we conceived our darling Bluebell. You’re a father to the two embabys we lost with our early miscarriage, and the father to all of the embabys that didn’t make it as far.
You may be a father without a baby in your arms, but you’re a father no less.
And I promise you this.
One day in the near future, we will welcome our babies home and as you cradle them in your big strong arms, all of the hurt, the tears and frustration will start to drift away and both of our hearts will begin to heal.
I am so excited to watch you teach our future babies all that they need to know; to crawl, to walk, eat and talk. To show them that they can do anything and be anyone they want to be in this world. To share your courage, your passion, your compassion, resilience, strength and endless love with them.
I know in my heart that you will be the most caring and amazing daddy to our babies when they finally greet us with a wail and a cry.
Keep holding on my darling husband, as we continue to walk side-by-side to our future as a daddy and a mummy to babies that will get to stay with us, grow with us and who will no doubt forever keep us on our toes.
Happy Father’s Day, my love.
I love you…xx
